Design Theory

The Theory Department educates students across all the design disciplines offered by the Faculty, addressing modes of thinking and issues of concern common to all. Our research seeks to advance design as a mode of thinking and practice that facilitates cross- and post-disciplinary approaches that are increasingly needed. This involves exposing and communicating the ‘world-shaping’ nature of design in situated contexts of climatic, technological, social, cultural and economic and change. We have expertise in areas such as Design Thinking, Critical Design, Design Philosophy, Design Ethics, Ontological Design, Design Futures, Design for Sustainment.
