Professor/Associate Professor/Lecturer in Architecture and Computational Design
Vacancy for: Architecture and Urban Design Program
Ref Code: II6.4.2.1
The German University in Cairo invites applications for vacancies to be filled effective September 2025.
Description:
We invite applications for a full-time faculty position in the Visual Design Department, specializing in Computational Design. The department integrates cutting-edge computational methodologies with traditional design principles, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to visual design and Architecture. Our curriculum encompasses a diverse range of courses, including design studios, computational design theories, digital fabrication, parametric modeling, and interactive media. We emphasize the integration of technology and design, preparing students to address contemporary challenges in the visual design landscape and appropriate use of AI in architecture and building.
The successful candidate will have expertise in computational design, with a focus on areas such as algorithmic design, generative design, digital fabrication, interactive media, Ai and building. We are particularly interested in applicants who can bridge the gap between architecture, technology and design, applying computational methods to create innovative building solutions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Teach and Lead Design Studios: Develop and lead design studios that integrate computational design methodologies, encouraging students to explore algorithmic and generative design processes.
• Develop and Teach Advanced Courses: Offer elective courses on specialized computational design topics at both undergraduate and graduate levels, such as parametric modeling, digital fabrication, and interactive media.
• Supervise Research: Guide bachelor’s, master’s, and Ph.D. theses in computational design and related fields.
• Research and Collaboration: Initiate and conduct innovative research activities, contributing to the department’s research profile in computational design. Engage in interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments and both national and international institutions.
• Curriculum Development: Contribute to the ongoing development and enhancement of the visual design curriculum, integrating emerging technologies and methodologies.
Qualifications:
• A terminal degree in Architecture, Computational Design, or a closely related field is required. A Ph.D. or doctoral degree is welcomed.
• Demonstrated teaching experience in computational design and related subjects.
• Proven ability to lead design studios that incorporate advanced computational methodologies.
• Substantial practical experience in computational design, digital fabrication, or interactive media.
• A strong research portfolio with publications related to computational design, algorithmic design, or digital fabrication.
• Excellent communication skills and proficiency in English, as it is the language of instruction.
• A commitment to engaging with the unique environmental, social, and technological contexts of the MENA region.
Interested candidates should submit the following:
• A cover letter detailing their research interests and teaching philosophy.
• A curriculum vitae.
• A practice portfolio of design work in the field and/or published research.
• A teaching portfolio of student work executed under the candidate supervision.
• Contact information for three academic or professional references.
Applications will be reviewed until the position is filled. For best consideration, applications should be submitted by April 30, 2025.
Join us in shaping the future of urban design in the MENA region and beyond. We look forward to your application!
