General Description:
The CNC Lab Technician is responsible for operating, maintaining, and troubleshooting CNC machinery in the lab according to the detailed instructions provided by the teaching staff. This role requires precision and attention to detail to ensure the quality of the educational process.
The CNC Lab Technician will work closely with the production technology course (EDPT201) instructor, teaching assistants and lab engineers to ensure a smooth delivery of the course relevant practical sessions.
Key Responsibilities:
• Operate CNC machines (3- & 5-Axis mills, lathes) to produce parts according to given workflow, technical drawings and specifications.
• Set up CNC machines by loading materials, installing cutting tools, and selecting the proper settings for speed and feed rates.
• Monitor and adjust machine settings during operation
• Conduct routine maintenance on CNC machines, including cleaning, lubrication, and minor repairs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mechanical or technical issues that arise during machine operation.
• Coordinate with course instructor in case of complex repairs or servicing as needed.
• Follow all safety procedures and wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) while operating machinery.
• Ensure compliance with all university regulations, including OSHA standards.
• Report safety hazards or incidents immediately to course instructor.
Technical Qualifications:
• Degree or equivalent Certification in CNC machining or industry-recognized qualification.
• Minimum 2 years of experience operating CNC machinery.
• Hands-on experience in Siemens Control for CNC machines
• Proficiency with CNC programming languages (e.g., G-code, M-code).
• Experience with CNC operation software and CAD/CAM software (e.g., Mastercam, AutoCAD, SolidWorks).
• Skilled in the use of measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and coordinate measuring machines (CMM).
