GUC Welcomes German Minister of State Florian Hahn

On October 4, 2026 The German University in Cairo (GUC) welcomed H.E. Minister Florian Hahn, Minister of State at the German Federal Foreign Office, during the University’s 2026 Graduation Ceremony, celebrating the achievements of graduates from the Faculties of Management Technology and Applied Sciences and Arts.

 

The ceremony was attended by Dr. Maya Morsy, Minister of Social Solidarity, Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the GUC Board of Trustees, and Prof. Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of GUC, alongside members of the GUC community, families, and graduates. A delegation from the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research and members of the German Parliament also attended the celebration.

 

Minister Hahn’s participation in the ceremony underscored the strong and longstanding academic ties between Egypt and Germany, with GUC serving as a prominent example of cooperation in higher education, science, and knowledge exchange.

 

Ahead of his Cairo visit, Minister Hahn highlighted the importance of the academic and societal connections between the two countries and specifically expressed his anticipation of attending a GUC graduation ceremony. He described the University as an example of the fruitful relationship between Egypt and Germany.

 

Speaking ahead of the visit, H.E. Minister Florian Hahn emphasized that Egyptian-German relations extend across a wide range of fields, including science, education, culture, politics, and the economy, and highlighted the importance of maintaining close exchanges between the two countries.

 

The graduation ceremony provided an opportunity to celebrate the accomplishments of GUC’s Class of 2026 while also highlighting the University’s role in fostering international academic cooperation and preparing graduates equipped with knowledge, skills, and international perspectives.

 

During the ceremony, Dr. Mohamed Awad, CEO of the General Authority for Investment and Free Zones (GAFI), representing the Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade, highlighted GUC’s contribution to preparing qualified talent for the labor market and to transferring and localizing German technology and expertise in Egypt. He also emphasized the University’s role in strengthening Egyptian-German relations through education, training, scientific research, and its integrated industrial complex.

 

The presence of Minister Hahn and the German delegation at GUC’s 2026 Graduation Ceremony reflects the University’s continued role as a bridge between Egypt and Germany, strengthening educational and societal links and contributing to the development of future generations of professionals, researchers, and innovators.
