The German University in Cairo (GUC) had the great honor of welcoming a high-ranking delegation from the State Parliament of Baden-Württemberg, including Mr. Norbert Knopf and Mr. Christoph Höh, during their official visit to Egypt. The visit highlighted the strong and growing partnership between GUC and the state of Baden-Württemberg, emphasizing the shared commitment to advancing education, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration between Egypt and Germany.

The distinguished guests were received by Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of GUC and GIU, Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of GUC, and members of the university’s academic leadership, including vice presidents and deans. Together, they discussed future opportunities for academic and research cooperation, particularly in areas connecting education, technology, and industry.

Following the reception, the delegation embarked on a comprehensive tour of the GUC campus, beginning with a visit to the Deutsche Internationale Schule Kairo (DISK) — GUC’s affiliated German international school. There, they explored the school’s innovative learning spaces and the Sieger Talent Center, where students engage in creative, hands-on workshops in physics, robotics, design, and production.

The workshops are organized under the umbrella of Sieger Explorers, a GUC-founded talent development initiative that partners with DISK to cultivate children’s and teens’ interests through interactive, experiential learning. The initiative aims to inspire curiosity and unlock potential across various fields — from simplifying scientific concepts to encouraging creativity in the arts and design — nurturing young learners’ confidence and skills from an early age.

The tour continued to GUC’s Industrial Park, a pioneering hub that connects academic knowledge with real-world applications. The Industrial Park houses cutting-edge research and development facilities where students, researchers, and industry professionals collaborate on engineering, materials science, and technology innovation projects. The delegation commended the GUC model for linking academia with industry and fostering entrepreneurial thinking among young engineers and scientists.

The visit concluded at the Faculty of Dentistry, one of GUC’s newest faculties, where the delegation was introduced to the Dental Simulators Laboratory led by Prof. Dr. Shahinaz Elashiry. The guests observed GUC’s advanced dental simulation technologies that provide students with realistic, hands-on clinical training. The facility impressed the visitors as an example of how GUC integrates education, technology, and research to prepare highly qualified healthcare professionals.

This visit served as a testament to the enduring relationship between Egypt and Germany, and particularly between GUC and the State of Baden-Württemberg — the home region of GUC’s founding universities. It also reinforced both sides’ mutual dedication to fostering research excellence, innovation, and the continuous exchange of knowledge between their academic and industrial communities.
