Legal Status and Agreements

As a result of bilateral German Egyptian cooperation, the German University in Cairo, GUC, was established to export study programs based on German model. It was founded under the presidential decree 27/2002, according to law number 101/ 1992 for establishing Egyptian Private Universities, and its executive regulations number 335/ 1996. GUC is established in cooperation with the State Universities of Ulm and Stuttgart , under the patronage of the Egyptian Ministry of Higher Education, the German Ministry of Science>, Research and Arts, State of Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany, and supported by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), and the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, Germany. Cooperation is extended to other German universities such as Tubingen and Leipzig.

Study System at GUC

To facilitate exchange of students and recognition of learning with partner universities, GUC’s study programs are designed in alignment with the German Higher Education system. Study programs are designed in cooperation with partner German Universities.

The organization of GUC’s programs makes use of modular components and the European Credit Transfer & Accumulation System (ECTS) with 30 credits corresponding to one semester.

The programs are designed considering the German Qualification Framework comprising three cycles, generic descriptors of each level based on learning outcomes and competences, and credit ranges in the first and second cycles.

Actually, according to the European standards and the ECTS system the GUC Bachelor program in science already includes one year/ one semester of master level courses as part of the Master degree. Therefore, GUC Bachelor graduates are eligible to continue their studies to obtain the Master degree.

The Master of Science (M.Sc.) is an internationally recognized post-graduate degree which leads to further pursuing of doctorate studies at the GUC, partner universities or any other university. Recognition of equivalence is expected in all countries.

Program Structure

For Engineering and Pharmacy GUC Bachelor Graduates

In addition to the already studied master level courses, students have to achieve successfully experimental research work and to write a thesis with duration of 6 months. The thesis is to be defended before a scientific committee.

The thesis is a formal document whose sole purpose is to prove that you have made an original scientific contribution to knowledge.

The contribution to knowledge of a Master's thesis can be in the nature of an incremental improvement in an area of knowledge, or the application of known techniques in a new area.

Admission

Admission is open to GUC Bachelor graduates who achieve a minimum GPA of “3” based on the German grading system and who are highly interested and strongly committed towards post-graduate studies and research. Also, the program is opened for non- GUC bachelor graduates who work as teaching assistants at GUC where pre- qualifying and master courses are specified by the Master program committee.

The final selection of the students will be based on the GPA ranking and on availability of M.Sc. topics.
