Mobile and Pervasive Computing (CSEN 905)
Offered By:
Media Engineering and Technology Faculty
Description
The continuous increase in the number of mobile users and the tremendous technological advances in wireless communication and portable devices have lead to the emergence of the era of mobile computing in the 90's and pervasive computing nowadays. Information is expected to be available everywhere and at all times. Moreover, computing devices are proliferated into the fabrics of everyday life. New applications have emerged in an environment that has many challenging complications such as: highly variable bandwidth and latency, dynamic network topologies, limited battery power, and easily snooped communications. The objective of this course is to discuss the fundamental problems in the emerging area of mobile and pervasive computing, along with their proposed solutions, with emphasis on networking and applications issues. Although this course is based on networking concepts, it will not discuss the wireless communication part. The course will be mostly self contained and will cover any required background material.
