Modelling and Simulation (NETW 707)

Course Prerequisites

Description

  1. Classification of System Models. Analog / digital models, mathematical and formal descriptions, model hierarchies. Examples of models: mechanical system models, electrical system models, logical system models, continuous and discrete models, automata models, control models, queueing models, resource sharing models
  2. Modelling Techniques and Model Specifications
  3. Methods of Computer Simulation. Continuous simulation, discrete simulation, discrete-time simulation. Event-by-event simulation, Monte Carlo-simulation.
  4. Software Tools for Modelling and Simulations. Examples: SPICE (el. circuit simulation), numerical simulation, queueing simulation. Finite element simulation, VHDL (computer hardware description language)
