Clinical Biochemistry (PHBC621)
Offered By:
Pharmacy and Biotechnology Faculty
Description
Students continue learning further about the science of biochemistry through the investigation of the biochemical causes and consequences of disease by biochemical techniques. Types of tests, types of marker compounds. Validation and quality control. Chemical methods, diagnostic enzymology, organ function tests. Blood parameters, urine status. Biochemical consequences of starvation and trauma. Generalized biochemical effects of malignant disease. Lipoprotein metabolism and disease. Acid-base balance. Fluid and electrolyte disturbances.
The course provides the general understanding and practical experience of the major methods used in the analyses of marker compounds in body fluids in health vs. disease under clinical settings.
