The German University in Cairo invites applications for vacancies to be filled effective September 2025.
The Faculty of Applied Science and Arts enrolls 1,250 students in three design majors: Graphic Design, Product Design and Media Design. GUC (Cairo Campus) invites highly qualified and motivated candidates to fill the following vacancy in the department of Graphic Design. Successful candidates will be expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate teaching.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will engage in teaching, research, mentoring, and administrative activities. She/he will establish and lead a research group in Graphic and Media Design, actively promote graduate and undergraduate research, and attract externally funded projects in any chosen area of design interest. Teaching will include design, technological, and methodological content for the development and implementation of digital media products, processes, and services. The candidate should oversee and develop the practice of interactive media-based systems in the Graphic Design and Media Design programs. The position includes the establishment of dedicated interactive design labs and engagement in academic collaborations with partner universities.
Experience/Skills:
• Doctorate/PhD or equivalent qualification or evidence of conducted research.
• Demonstrated teaching and practical expertise in various areas of graphic and media design, i.e. analysis, concept development, iterative design processes, requirements of design implementation.
• Strong commitment to progressive design education principles regarding self-organized and responsible design study.
• Understanding of the implications of design practice within social, cultural, economic or technological contexts.
• Ability to work well with colleagues from diverse cultural backgrounds, professional experiences, and aesthetic sensibilities.
• Ability to structure and define project goals to promote and motivate positive experiences.
• Excellent interpersonal communication and writing skills in English, the language of instruction.
• Good management skills, including the ability to meet deadlines, communicate effectively, and motivate.
• An interest in working collaboratively within the GUC and with external partners to develop joint projects.
Solid experience and proven track record, preferably in the following areas:
• Practical background in networked user experiences and user engagement strategies.
• Extensive experience in the area of interface design for mobile applications and responsive web-based solutions with a focus on graphic layout, typography and the development of visual language systems.
• Knowledge of contemporary prototyping tools such as Adobe XD and Figma.
• Knowledge of current relevant developments and trends in the area of interactive technologies and media design and their impact on course content.
• Theoretical background in user-centered research methods and service design, in particular usability engineering.
Requirements:
Academic titles are assigned to successful candidates based on the highest degree earned, industry experience, and teaching and research experience.
