The German University in Cairo (GUC) launched its "Year of Legal Dialogues on Global Challenges" with a lecture by Dr. Jasmine Moussa, Legal Counsel to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. As a representative of Egypt, Dr. Moussa shared her expertise on the country's current priorities in foreign policy in light of public international law, highlighting Egypt's engagement with the International Court of Justice. She provided valuable insights into the Court's evolving role in addressing global challenges and the significance of legal consistency and strategy in foreign policy.

Dr. Moussa's lecture focused on key trends shaping the International Court of Justice's current work, including the rise of public interest litigation and the growing number of state interventions. She discussed the strategic use of requests for provisional measures and evolving interpretations of standing, drawing on her experience representing Egypt in international legal proceedings. Dr. Moussa emphasized the importance of international law in shaping state behavior and providing authoritative legal guidance on matters of global concern, such as climate change.

The session concluded with an engaging Q&A, during which students raised thoughtful questions on the future of multilateralism and the role of the International Court of Justice. Students praised Dr. Moussa's generosity and expertise, saying they felt inspired and empowered by her lecture, particularly appreciating her insights into Egypt's role in international law. The GUC's Faculty of Law looks forward to continuing this series of Legal Dialogues with more conversations that inspire critical thinking.
