"AI Modeling: Future of the City" workshop was designed to explore the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in the analysis and design of urban environments. This hands-on workshop guided participants through the use of AI tools for research, design, and modeling, focusing on practical applications and innovative approaches.

Key Highlights:

1. What is AI and How to Use It in Analysis & Design: The workshop began on 15.07.2024 with a visit to Tegel Lake, followed by an introduction lecture that helped participants understand the fundamentals of AI and how to apply it effectively in urban analysis and design.

2. Approaching Design with AI: On 16.07.2024, participants learned strategies for integrating AI into the design process to enhance creativity and efficiency through lectures by the workshop instructors and a guest lecture by Lamia AbdelAziz.

3. Research & Database AI Tools: The exploration of various AI tools continued on 17.07.2024 with a site visit to the East Side Gallery and walks through different waterfront locations. This was followed by a visit to the “Futurium Museum“, providing participants with inspiration and real-world insights for their projects.

4. Project Idea: Students utilized the location of a waterfront to build mass models using AI tools. On 18.07.2024, they attended an online guest lecture by Dr. Ibrahim Sami and continued working on campus to refine their designs.

5. Outputs: Participants produced posters and comprehensive models, utilizing augmented reality (AR) and virtual reality (VR) through glasses to visualize their designs. This work continued on 19.07.2024 with additional project work on campus and a visit to a summer garden for further inspiration.

6. Site Visits: The workshop included various site visits, such as the 20.07.2024 trips to the Volkswagen Museum and UDK Exhibition, which offered participants additional insights into innovative urban designs. The day before, 21.07.2024, was scheduled as a day off.

7. Final Exhibition: The final days of the workshop, 22.07.2024 and 23.07.2024, were dedicated to working on the projects and preparing the final exhibition setup, culminating in the exhibition on 24.07.2024.

Special thanks to our amazing workshop instructors Hebatulla Elsharawy and Fatma Elmowaled. Hebatulla is an Instructor/ Assist. Lecturer in the German University in Cairo. She graduated from the GUC in 2018 and worked as a teaching assistant in the GUC since then. In 2021, she received her Master Degree in Architecture "Building Tech. and Integrated Design" major from the GUC. Fatma has been working in GUC since 2016. She received her Master degree in 2019 from GUC. She teaches various courses such as Design studios, Housing, & Working drawing courses. She is acting as Instructor in the CADCAM courses including different software. She is a PhD candidate, focusing on Smart & Walkable Cities.

Conclusion:

"AI Modeling: Future of the City" workshop provided an immersive experience in applying AI to urban design and modeling. By combining theoretical knowledge with practical application, participants learned to harness AI tools to envision and create the future of cityscapes. Join us next year to explore how AI can shape and enhance the urban environments of tomorrow.
