At GIU Berlin Campus (from 15th to 24th of July)

Dr. Maggie Mashaly

"Empowering the Future: A Journey into AI and Data Science" workshop, led by Dr. Maggie Mashaly, offers an in-depth exploration of integrating IoT devices with AI models to boost athletic performance.

Key Highlights:

1. IoT Devices for Athletes: Participants dived into the creation and application of IoT devices designed to capture detailed data on athlete movements and vital signs. These devices were crucial for real-time data collection.

2. AI Model Backend: The workshop covered the AI model backend that supports advanced signal processing algorithms and machine learning techniques. This backend was essential for analyzing data from IoT devices.

3. Networking Backend: Attendees learned about designing and implementing a networking backend to manage data collection, storage, and real-time analysis, providing actionable insights to coaches and athletes.

4. End Node Analysis: Participants explored how end nodes process specific types of data to enable decision-making through an AIoT (AI + IoT) approach.

5. Hands-On Experience: The workshop emphasized practical experience, including building IoT nodes, making design decisions, and analyzing collected data to improve sports performance.

Conference Highlights:

During the workshop, the first WiDS Berlin @ GIU conference took place at the German International University (GIU) on July 22. As the sole WiDS ambassador in Berlin, Dr. Maggie had the honor of organizing this landmark event.

WiDS Berlin @ GIU was part of a mission to enhance female participation in data science and highlight exceptional women in the field. The conference, which drew over 50 attendees, featured:

- Opening Address by Prof. Klischewski: The president of GIU set a motivational tone for the event.

- Keynote by Prof. Ute Dietrich: Prof. Dietrich from HTW delivered a compelling presentation on Digital Twins, showcasing her expertise in data science.

The conference celebrated the achievements of women in data science and AI, supported by a dedicated team including Associate Professor Maggie Mashaly from GUC, Dr. -Ing Nada Sharaf, Dr. Caroline Sabty from GIU, M. Sc. Eng. Nour Idris, and Eng. Nawraz Saeed from GUC.

Special thanks to our amazing workshop instructor Associate Prof. Dr. -Ing. Maggie Mashaly received the B.Sc. Master’s degrees in Information Engineering & Technology from the German University in Cairo, Egypt, in 2010 and 2011, respectively. She received her Ph.D. degree in Cloud Computing and computer networks from the University of Stuttgart, Germany in 2017.

Conclusion:

The "Empowering the Future" workshop represented a significant contribution to advancing technology and promoting diversity. The workshop offered valuable skills in AI and IoT applications for sports, while the conference supported and recognizes the growing role of women in data science. Join us next year to explore and refine your interior design skills in this engaging and educational workshop.
