Topics in Architectural Engineering - Offered to all 9th semester Majors (CIG 903)

Description

This Course is offered to all 9th semester Majors
This course aims to introduce several topics in the field of architectural engineering that are pertinent to the civil engineering profession. It provides the students with the basic knowledge to integrate what they studied in the structural design courses with the principles of architectural design and drawing. It permits the students to improve their skills for computer aided design (CAD) in design and construction, as well as use CAD software to prepare and/or modify structural and architectural drawings for engineering projects, and practice technical reports and presentations. The course contributes to the knowledge and skills required by the civil engineers by selecting from the following topics of engineering design: Basic elements of architectural design; Architectural design matrix; Space and compositions; Management of architectural information; Building matrix; Components of building construction: exterior and interior finishing materials, movement, expansion and settlement joints; Preparation of construction drawings, details and schedules using CAD software; Urban design and city planning; Analysis and design of building subsystems: enclosure, space, structural, environmental-control; building physics: energy flows within buildings, sustainable and green buildings; Field trips.
