Traffic Engineering I (CIT 502)

Course Prerequisites

Description

The course gives an overview of the different elements of the traffic stream characteristics and how these elements are related. Macroscopic models that describe traffic movements will also be explained. Furthermore, this course introduces students to traffic engineering studies including traffic operations of roads, streets, and highways. The course also covers the use of signs, signals, and pavement markings as traffic control devices; highway and intersection capacity, and design operations of traffic signals. The course enriches students’ knowledge regarding traffic engineering concepts and capacity analysis techniques based on contemporary practices in the international and local industry, and state of the art literature. While the course is focused on traffic engineering, students will also learn how the knowledge gained from this course fits into the wider rim of intelligent transport systems (ITS).
