  2. Definition of Protocol Functions Protocol elements, protocol functions, basic protocol mechanisms for synchronization of distributed processes
  3. Protocol Representation by Finite State Machines
  4. Protocol Engineering Protocol specification, verification and validation, testing
  5. Formal Description Languages SDL, Petri-Nets, ASN. 1
  6. Example Classes for Network Protocols Alternating-bit-protocol, link protocols (HDLC class of protocols), packet layer protocol (IP), signalling protocols (SS7 protocol), routing protocols.
