On 18 April 2016, German University in Cairo and the Leading world German company in Energy Solutions GILDEMEISTER inaugurated GUC Solar City on GUC campus. GUC Solar City represents the state- of -art, All-in-one unique model of sustainable energy Solutions.

The experimental launch was attended by a High German and Egyptian eminent delegation. The delegation included Deputy Minister of State for Economy and Energy, German Federal Republic H.E   Staatssekretär Uwe Beckmeyer. German Ambassador to Egypt H.E. Ambassador   Julius Georg Luy,  Eng. Hani Azer Chief Engineer of Berlin Hauptbahnhof and member of the Egyptian President’s advisory council, Eng. Abdelfattah Mansour GUC Vice Chairman of Board of trustees, Dr. Hassan Younes Ex-Minister of Electricity and Energy,  DMG Top Management representatives for Egypt and Africa, and GUC President Prof. Mahmoud Hashem.  Members from German Embassy and GUC community.

GUC Solar City will focus on sustainable energy research, applications, and solutions. GUC and GILDEMEISTER , through this strategic partnership as well, will focus on the development of the human resources in this industry around the world through the hands on experience and training.

GUC Solar City will provide the latest technology for research and development; it will be a unique research station for regional technical development, regional and national economic development through satisfying the energy demands of urban communities.

The GUC Solar City includes a new Windcarrier that operates horizontally which is suitable for small communities. It presents the most advanced liquid battery with more than 25 years life of large capacity/ 1600 kW. It includes as well the first immobility charging stations in the Middle East.

 In his speech, Professor Ashraf Mansour , GUC Prime Founder and  the Head of Board of Trustees said, “in 2006 GUC presented an un-preceded achievement in the academia and in the industry fields by establishing the GUC industry park that the GUC Industry Park. He described it as “a unique establishment which differs completely from any other under the same name. The GUC industry park is acting as a bridge between both economies of Egypt and Germany, securing working places in Germany and creating new ones in Egypt”.

He added:  “Today we are here to celebrate again an additional entrepreneurial leading initiative of GUC in the field of renewable energy – the GUC Solar City. The GUC Solar City is the largest laboratory and showroom in the world. It includes research, educational, industrial and training centers and also offers many industrial, developmental, legal, and commercial services. The GUC Solar City is not only a station for generating electricity and storing energy through huge green batteries, but also represents a combination of different solutions for energy generation and storage.”

His Excellency the German Ambassador to Egypt, H.E. Ambassador Julius Georg Luy, gave a speech where he congratulated the GUC family and Prof. Mansour on the achievement. He expressed as well his admiration to the activities and the role of GUC in supporting education and development.

His Excellency the German Deputy Minister of Economics and Energy of the Federal Republic of Germany, H.E. Staatssekretar Uwe Beckmeyer, gave a speech where he expressed his wishes for a fruitful cooperation between GILDEMEISTER and GUC while stressing the role that the university takes in the development of human resources.

Eng. Abdel Fattah Mansour, GUC Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees, gave a speech marking the development of the cooperation and its significance for both the German industry and the GUC for the welfare of the Egyptian society.
