First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo Visits the German University in Cairo (GUC)

On Saturday 1st of November 2025, the German University in Cairo (GUC) had the honor of welcoming the First Lady of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mrs. Denise Nyakeru Tshisekedi, who was welcomed by Professor Dr. Ashraf Mansour, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, and Professor Dr. Yasser Hegazy, President of the University, alongside a distinguished delegation.

 

During her visit, Mrs. Tshisekedi toured the university's Industrial Park and the ARAtronics Lab, where she was introduced to the research and technology being developed by GUC students and faculties. The tour highlighted the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and industry collaboration.

 

The discussions between the First Lady and the university's leadership focused on strengthening cooperation between GUC and the Democratic Republic of Congo, with an emphasis on providing scholarships for Congolese students. Prof. Dr. Ashraf Mansour shared that GUC plays a pivotal role as the gateway to German education in Africa, representing approximately 60% of German higher education in the region. He emphasized the university’s global academic reputation and its commitment to offering diverse programs that equip graduates with the skills needed to excel in the global workforce and in leading companies and institutions worldwide.

 

Prof. Mansour further reiterated that GUC has been dedicated to promoting accessibility and providing learning opportunities for exceptional students, including those from abroad, by offering full support throughout their academic journey and beyond graduation.

 

Mrs. Tshisekedi expressed her deep appreciation for the warm welcome and the impressive infrastructure at the university. She expressed her confidence in GUC's ability to deliver academic excellence and modern programs that meet the needs of students from all over the world, particularly those from Africa.

 

This fruitful visit marked a significant step towards fostering international collaboration and academic excellence, reinforcing GUC’s commitment to enhancing partnerships with African nations for the advancement of education and innovation.

 

The visit also highlighted the importance of scholarships and educational exchange programs in building stronger ties between the Democratic Republic of Congo and Egypt, and further solidified GUC’s role in providing high-quality education and support to students from across the continent.
